mute drop 4.0:

the cup mute.

a name so simple because thats what you’ll call it.

the cup mute is the teachers pet of cup mutes. WhateveR you need: loud cup, tight cup, classical or jazz it has you covered. can even be flipped inside out and used as a plunger.

this mute has skills.

tell me about it.

  • a single piece

squishy and adjustable just like the gumby

the cup mute doesn't need or have a seperate cup, instead adjust the entirety of the mute in or out of your bell

gives more options and even more ability to play with variations of color

  • vented.

with inserted brass threading you are able to vent the mute for different affects or grab an extra pack of screws and see the different sounds those make

  • squishy.

squeeze it. shove it in your case. shove it in your bell. use it as a stress ball when you miss your solo.

  • flip-inside outable and multipurpose

flip the cup inside out partially or fully to have access to two different sounding straight mutes. (see left and right photos)

flip it all the way inside out and turn it around to use it as a plunger.

squeeze the cup as its inside your bell to get a slight plunger effect.

tasting notes.

  • Flexible tone.

    infinitely adjustable in bell tuning

once the corks are set you are able to adjust the depth of the mute on the fly simply by pressing the mute further into or pulling it further out of the bell

  • single piece construction

the single piece construction and flexibility of the mute make mute changes a breeze.

the single piece construction eliminates loose cups or haphazard adjustments while playing

  • best suited for.

anything. from commercial, jazz, to symphony orchestra or band settings the flexible nature of the gumby allows it to fit in almost anywhere

  • Is it for me.

for players looking for flexibility in a single mute.

    for players of any style.

for players frustrated by needing multiple mutes to accommodate single works because the loud mute only plays loud and the soft mute only plays soft.

for players who stink at mute changes (you know who you are)

for the player who collects stress balls.

pudding

or as we like to say:

where the proof is.

examples with different screws, both tight cup (deeper in bell) and open cup (further out of bell)

playing in context, musical examples

Its safe to drop…here is what it sounds like from bell height

My cup mute got squished…

did the cup mute cup get bent out of shape? no need to worry. just flip it inside out (SEE photo below) and leave for a bit. it will reshape itself as well as it is able.

over time it may lose some of its roundness this isn’t a huge issue as small variations in the shape of the cup won’t affect playability.
